Yes there is, if you know how to do it.  You would need to design the plan to be able to shield the taxes associated with the roll over, through using more than just stocks, bonds and cash.  You can design a Tax-Free Roth Conversion but you need to know how to do it and have the right team in place to be able to execute the strategy.  The world revolves around paperwork and if you want anything to happen in your life, (i.e., buy a house, go to school, retire), you need to know how to fill out the right type of paperwork.  A Tax-Free Roth Conversion is accomplished by.......(Find the right type of advisor), maybe, someone that has a Masters in Tax Consulting, who understands retirement income distribution planning and can help you execute a plan with the end goal in mind of being able to replace 100% of your income so that you can retire according to your terms.   

 It would allow you to roll over your IRA or 401(k) tax-free through proper planning and design of your overall retirement portfolio, executing your individual plan and then reaping the rewards by doing it the right way from the start.  Mediocare planning gets you mediocare results.  Don't end up like the rest of the herd.  If you advisor is not able to show you how they are going to replace 100% of your income, adjusted each year for inflation in perpetuity for the next 35+ years of increasing inflation environment, may be its time to find someone who can?
