Atheist People Can't Adopt

A couple's adoption application was

denied because they were atheists. Do you think people who are not religious will make lesser parents because of their lack of belief in God?

I wouldn't wanna be in a club that wouldn't let me in...

I think that this must be illegal.  There is nothing saying that a person has to believe in any sort of god or religion to raise children, so why should this be criteria for adopting.  Maybe it was the specific agency that they are trying to adopt from?  I don't really understand how this could be the case and to me I see the words LAWSUIT written all over it.  It's also possible that there was another reason that the couple was denied adoption.

This sounds very strange. I can't imagine why anyone would think being an atheist makes you less of a parent. There are many other characteristics that need to be taken into account but this isn't one of them. People can believe in what they like and prohibiting people who are atheists from achieving parenthood seems ludicrous to me.

Of course atheists would not make better parents. A healthy family should be healthy in all respects.........mental, physical, and spiritual. This is what the state(s) or adoption agencies are looking for. Someone with substance and some deeper morals than atheists have. Now before all the defenders of non-believers get all mad and screaming, there is of course, exceptions to the rule as some atheists are genuinely compassionate and and would make good parents. All that would be lacking in THOSE cases would be the deeper meanings of life and substance............not raising a child who would be taught a persons life is like a plant and when you die, well, then thats it. Forget about the lawsuits and consider the health and well - being of a prospective adoptee. Put someones life ahead of the 1-800-CALLGARY people like SibaBarbosa who commented prior to my comment. Choose a well rounded life with all there is to offer instead of whats cool and who you can sue, ect.

Yes.  Good parents, maybe.  But, the question is not whether they will be good or bad but "lesser".  Raising a child without a belief in religion will leave the child lacking, expecially when older and facing problems which require faith and trust.

Its very important to belive in some sort of a  creator and and or spiritual based God, true, its a free world to refuse to accept this plan of an eternal creator and or savoir,  But all the laws we live by are based upon the religious aspects rules, and to deny this is a reason to be denied any object of your desire, its like only taking what you want out of the laws and not respecting the rest .Adoption is set up upon these laws from all religious aspects and it is with in their rights to refuse your request . If you only respect what you want to out of the laws it isnt fair to the adopted childern and others ,
