If a company develops Asterisk-based IP-PBX, does it need to supply the source-code to its customers, if it developed more proprietary code on top of the Asterisk basic code? Basically I'm trying to figure out if an Asterisk-based IP-PBX can defend its IP (Intellectual Property), or the company is taking a risk that a rival company can reverse engineer the product, according to the GPL.

Thanks

Basically Digium is licensing Asterisk under the GPL, but you can also buy a commercial license which seems to be exactly what you need. Take a look here:

Hi Giladn,

Since Asterisk is an opensource the original code is possible to be supplied. But as for the proprietory code it depends. OrenB has said it all.

"Asterisk gave me lot of flexibility for my virtual PBX service ".
