Assessing Trainee Teachers, Portugal

Hello everyone,

I'm a Portuguese teacher of English and I am researching the assessment of trainee teachers of English.

Could anyone tell me how they became licensed teachers (only the ones who work in State schools)?

Did you have anything similar to a probation year supervised by a trainer/mentor?

What sort of tasks did you have to accomplish?

Did you get a mark at the end of that year?

How was that mark reached (critera)?

These are the sorts of questions I would love to have answers to, as I think Portugal is very different from other countries in the way we train and assess our teachers.

Thanks in advance for your participation

Cristina

Hello Cristina,

Your question sounds very interesting. As far as I'm a Moroccan EFL teacher, I can tell you about the procedure of becoming an EFL teacher. First of all one has to get a BA in English literature or linguistics with excellent grades in order to selected to take two profeciency tests. One oral test and one written test. When one passes the tests then h/she is claimed o teacher trainee in ENS (école normale superiour) where the trainee is going to spend a whole year studying methodology, psychology and other subjects. Towards the end of the year, teacher trainees do visits to state schools to observe and then to try teaching under supervision of professional teachers. Before graduating from ENS, trainees have to write and defend papers they have written about educational issues. tHEN     THE TEACHER

If anyone answer to you pass that on to me ok!
