A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Arranged marriages or love marriages

I just recently read an article about arranged marriages.

What surprises people is the fact that the independent, self-reliant individuals of Generation-Y often look upon their parents to find suitable matches for them. Finding girl/boy friends is easy, finding a wife/husband is serious business!

Would you ever agree to an arranged marriage? I mean, the divorce rate in America is clearly at its highest in a very long time, over 50%!! Does arranged marriage have the potential to solve this problem?

A while back, I would never have believed in arranged marriages at all......However, I have a daughter that only knows how to pick bums...She is 36, college educated, cute, no bagage, has lived at home forever.....She is loyal and continues the relationships for at least 5 years...Then finds another jerk....My belief has shifted now...Perhaps when your older and wiser, there are more things you look for in a mate......Dunno.......

Well here's the main thrust of it.

If someone is told that they are to marry no matter what, then all the pros and cons have to be listed,  along with strategies, long term plans, and all the minor details.

And if marriage is done as a whim, none of the above is taken into consideration.

So based on logic, and planning "arranged" marriages will last longer.

Realistically though, arranged - planned - discussed marriages will always take place...it's the one-off spur of the moments no planning or long term forecasting one that will take place more often and without consideration.

So marriage stats will  skew to show idiots getting married all the time.

So arranged marriages will solve this problem, but the majority will not do it as it takes to much work and effort.

I wouldn't agree.

I think that a lasting marriage is not unnecessarily a good one. I think that also the reason why arrange marriage are more lasting is that they happen mostly in traditional societies in which divorce is still a big taboo and so people stay in a marriage that's unhappy just because of fear of the social reciprocation.
