April's Fool History

When did April's Fool day start?

Was it celebrated during the middle ages?

You can see in the Hunchback of Notre Dam a real April's Fool festival (see from 2:07 here):

RE: April's Fool History

I once read that it was related to the ancient equinox celebrations (when the day and night are equal). I checked

Wikipedia and found out that I was partially correct and that it really began taking shape as a prankster's day in the late 18th century.
