Apply Antibiotic Ear Drops!

What is the easiest way to put liquid antibiotics in a dogs ears, without him fighting you and trying to get away? My Chihuahua has a bacterial and yeast infection in both ears, mostly the left ear. I'm a pretty calm person, so I don't think he can sense any fear in me and he never gives me any problems when I use the Virbac Epi Otic Solution to clean his ears, and he never tries to get away from me, but when I try to put the antibiotics in, he tries to bolt on me. Do you have any idea why, and how I can get him calm enough, to put the medication in his ears? Thanks!

even though the sun is so powerful there is always half of the earth that is not lit up.

Well i think tht u should just talk to him calmly and soothingly.  Tht is what gets animals, mostly dogs, calm.  they hear tht soothing voice and they just want to fall asleep.  Possibly, if tht doesn't work, give hima toy to occupy him or a treat.  Or a treat after the medication to show him that he gets a treat after and he might be still.

I dont know why the meds make him run away. sorry.

Hi CrazyCatie! I just wanted to say, that I do talk to him calmly and with a soothing voice, and have also tried treats, toys, and distracting him, but that doesn't help either! The second I touch his ears, he tries to bolt on me! His ears are really sore, especially the left one, but I have to find a way to get the antibiotics in his ears! The sooner I can do that, the more chance I have, that his soreness will go away and once that happens, I know he won't give me any problems putting the antibiotics in his ears.

By the way, i think ur dog is really cute.  (im guessing thts his picture as ur icon)

maybe it burns you have to hold him and continue to comfort him while giving him the antibiotics,it will seem harsh the first couple of times but continue to comfort before, during and after the medicine to insure him that you are only trying to help.

Be the change you wish to see in the world.

Dogs In Danger

Unfortunately, your dog is experiencing so much discomfort that when you touch his ears, he is feeling more pain than anything else. The only way to help him is to make sure he gets the ear drops. I'd suggest having two people help you: one to hold his body firmly, and another to hold his head so he cannot shake you off; this way you can successfully get the ear drops into his ears. Even though this may seem cruel, it is not. What you are doing is going to make him feel better and he will appreciate it when this infection is gone. Dogs are very intelligent animals. Make sure to give him lots of affection and he will understand that you are not trying to hurt him or make him feel worse, but rather, you are trying to do just the opposite. Good luck. I hope your dog feels better soon.
