Answer 1 out of 1

A:

It is based on "Heart of Darkness"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_of_darkness

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocalypse_now: The film was directed by Francis Ford Coppola from a script by Coppola, John Milius and Michael Herr, which drew elements from Joseph Conrad's novella Heart of Darkness. It was also heavily influenced, both sylistically and substantively, by Werner Herzog's highly-lauded 1972 film Aguirre, The Wrath of God.
