Antique Road Repair Kerosene Lamps

My grandfather worked on city streets in the early 50's. He had a set of 3 kerosene lamps in a metal storage box. These round ball shaped lamps were used extensively around the work areas at night to warn motorists of a street repair area. They were set on the pavement all around the work area. My question is that I don't even know what these are called much less what they may be worth. I would appreciate any imput I can get. Thanks - Pete
