Tippy, yeah, the nut jobs are busy today.  They have been attacking everybody that posts to me, too, so a lot of people are losing thumbs as we speak.  Even Yaniv is getting attacked, though I find it hard to feel sympathy for him over it.  Two years ago he said it would be "thumbs down with a reason" and if he had kept his promise none of this thumbs war would be happening.  And letting people post answers and thumbs without even confirming their e-mail address is just plain wrong.

I am also getting annoyed that Yedda won't tell us anything about these crazies.  We could lean on their ISP to cut off their service, since this type of thing is probably prohibited by their terms of service.  It also would be nice to at least know what country this is all coming from.  We could write their embassy and ask for real help to stop these international attacks.

Oh, well, I guess that in a few days I will move elsewhere.  There is no point in staying if I have to give up my profile and my history here just to stop being harassed on every thread I post to, and dragging new people into the mess everytime they respond to me.

While I hope that Yedda does end this once and for all, I seriously have my doubts and I am continuing to look at other sites without these problems.

People like this "he has risen" that use religion as a cover for their personal evil are .....  well, words fail me.  I just want to forget about it and go away.  The solution to the problem is too easy and Yedda is too lax for allowing it.

Hello Bob,

Ok, I like the thumbs system. The only thing I find wrong with it are the abusers, and they will get tired and leave. I saw it take care of itself a bit yesterday.

I have received most of my thumbs up from the AOL questions. People reading the AOL news and then coming in and posting. They leave a thumbs up or down depending on weather or not they agree with me, and I am always interested in what people think, one way or another.

I also answer a lot of home improvement questions, and DIY questions as well. I have got a lot of thumbs in that area as well, but, not as many replies. I think some people just respond with a thumb up. I know I do a lot of times when I don't have time to comment, I will just give a thumbs up. I have also looked at questions that seem so basic to me, that I can't believe the person is even asking, but again, there are things that are basic to another that are not to me. Ex: How should I get my drywall smooth? Answer: Get a electric sander and some 80 grit paper and sand away. Ok, Now I had to give that guy 2 thumbs down for handing out bad information, followed by the real answer on how to do it. And you don't use a circular saw to cut drywall....LOL.....I guess where I was headed with this is I like to be acknowledged for answering. I spend a half hour one day explaining to a guy how to cut crown moulding and I never heard a word....I am sorry, I am a bit wordy here Bob, but I think the answer is taking care of our own and perhaps a few moderators as well. Anybody who has been around for a while knows what goes on here and who is who, or how many who's. We need to keep a watchful eye and most of all help the new ones that want to get involved here as well.

Well, there's the short version Bob...Laughing....Have a good day my friend........George~

PS.....Oron wa so thrilled the other day when he hit the 10,000 thumb mark and to see someone take them away really angered me. I know he didn't get his the easy way like me. He worked for every one of his and deserves them.

George, thanks for your thoughts.  If all of OronD's thumbs up were tallied without the thumbs down, he would have over twenty thousand of them, at least, maybe more, and deserving of them all.  I don't give out thumbs up or down very often, and I don't pay a lot of attention to them, though if they worked well I would probably take them more seriously.  But the numbers are too easy to manipulate, which is why we see people with 10 answers and 600 thumbs up, and people with a thousand answers with hardly any thumbs up.  Page through the highest ratings list and you will see what I mean.

I am more interested in the moderation aspect of the blogs, and the inability to get rid of bad/inappropriate/malicious answers.  Yedda used to much better moderated with a staff that was proactive, looking out for problem posters.  They (the staff) seem to be gone now, and all I want is the tools that they left behind to control the insanity.  I know there are some staff left, and if you write them often enough eventually they do something to a specific post or poster, but that is a reactionary position, and not very timely.  In my position, I have thousands of blogs I have posted answers on, and for me to write a letter to the staff every time some crazy follows my posts around and posts nonsense to try and drive me off would take a lot of writing and time.

Like you, some of my answers take a half hour or more to walk someone through a DIY problem.  I only have so much time in a day to spend altruistically helping strangers, the same as everybody else.  To spend time writing to the staff when I could just push the delete button means someone isn't getting an answer from me.  Just trying to deal with pushing for a small change has cost me probably fifty answers to people who need some kind of help or attention that won't get it from me, and possibly from no one.  There are thousands and thousands of unanswered questions here, and many of them were probably important to whoever asked.

I also answer a lot of medical questions, and getting the right answer is important, sometimes life or death.  Obviously we can't be held responsible for someone not getting the help or advice they need, or not standing between them and a bad answer.  But, as often as I insist that this is just fun, it is deadly serious at times.  That is the most important reason for having moderators, because people can get hurt as a by product of knowledge or ignorance, and someone with common sense and a sense of calm needs to keep an eye on things 24/7.

It's a waste, political gossip and conspiracy theories.  Shameful that people buy it, drama queens the worst indulgent in this.  Watch out, drama queens use and abuse you, don't get too friendly they turn like rabid dogs.

I know I've reported abuse; and as a result there was an account deleted for it was indeed abuse.  We can work together as grown ups, yes the cyber stalking issue; hit the abuse button and state it, spam report abuse and state it.

There is no way to formerly moderate each and every post with a small staff, then as to a moderator the problem with that is the ip address would need be banned rather than deleted.  The amount of questions posted - not very many people can read each and every thread to determine if the poster is stalking; harrassing etc.  Then this isn't the software for that type of discussions.

I get my share of stalkers.  Usually, atheists, leftists, etc.  Followers will always want to be with a leader, even if they don't respect that leader.  That is because followers are so desperate that they will follow anyone, even if they are a burden that is best dropped.

That is not enough to get me to pull out of Yedda.  However, it might be a good idea to have an "ignore" function: once "ignored" we will never see another one of the follower's abrasive posts.

Rocmike3, that is an excellent suggestion.  I don't care that others are saying stupid or nasty things about me, but it would be nice not to have them showing up in my activity list multiple times a day clogging up my responses to real people with serious issues.  The only drawback is that it leaves out redemption and the ability of people to change and improve, able to communicate on problems of common interest.  I have people posting to my petition that in other posts seem to hate each other (have you seen it yet?  The link is at the top of the page).  But we all share common problems at times, and in this country we have a history of disparate people banding together against common enemies.

I get my share of stalkers too.  I figure that it might do them some good to follow me around and see the questions I respond to and my answers.  They never offer any help of their own, though, just more misery heaped upon another stranger.

Usually these types are the best argument against what they profess to believe.  They take any usefulness of labels and names for things and destroy it.  I used to think that Liberals were liberal and Conservatives were conservative, but the labels have become meaningless.  Now Liberal seems to mean socialist and Conservative seems to mean fascist.  Neither seems to be for the original principles of our country, individual freedom and equality.  Everybody is looking for an edge against the others and forgets that we were all banded together as individuals to promote individual rights and freedoms.  They forget that everybody of every background fight together in our military and serve in our police forces and hospitals.  Trying to make us all think the same has always been antithetical to our notion of what we are as a nation.  We all have value and we all have flaws, and our tolerance for each other has made us a great country.  If we can't preserve that tolerance we don't have much else left.

George, thank you for the post.  I meant to answer it, but it slipped away in the huge volume of correspondence I have been buried under lately.  I have seen things like you mention, horrible wrong answers to questions.  The medical ones really fry my grits.  Some of those answers are dangerously wrong and it bothers me that my good answer can get lost from view amid the trash and no way to get rid the dangerous information.

Then there are the new people who post their first question and get harassed and called stupid for asking it.  I try to report this crap when I see it, and post a serious response, but there are so few of us doing that that I am sure most of it doesn't get noticed except by the asker, who then never comes back.  I know that I wouldn't take this site seriously if it happened to me.  It does happen with questions I ask on occasion, and it is very annoying though it won't chase me away.  What is chasing me away is the neglect this site is receiving from the staff.  It wasn't always like this.  They used to be much more on top of problems than they are now.

I agree that we need to keep an eye out for each other.  But it is the responsibility of the site to do that, before we need to get involved, and I am trying to hold them to their duties.  It would be much easier for them to do since they have the tools for the job than to have us following up afterwards and clean up the mess.

nwad42860, thanks for reporting the abuse.  I get tired of it, and I get annoyed that I no longer receive responses letting me know the problem and poster have been taken care of, or that my complaint has even been received.  I have reported abuse for so many things that the staff should have caught, obscene pictures, obscene language (this is supposed to be a site used by children), advertisements, harassment, and so on.  All things in violation of the user agreement.  Little point in making rules if they are not followed or enforced.

Since this is supposed to be a child-friendly site I would think that the staff would morally/legally have to be on top of all this, or give up and make it adults only.

By the way, I'm not trying to be rude, just trying to catch the joke if there is one.  Is your nickname nwad short for nose wad?
