A:There are a couple of things you can do to boost your WiFi signal using stuff that you just build at home:
- Upgrade the antenna
Some WiFi access points and routers that have WiFi built in support replacing an antenna. You can replace the antenna with one that have a higher gain and some extra coverage.
There are a couple of ways to do that: - If your WiFi access point/router supprots replacing an antenna you can simply buy a better one (but it will cost you).
- You can build your own homebrew cantenna or a monopole antenna. It all depends on your needs.
- If you can't upgrade the antenna you can wrap a copper wire around it and hook the copper wire to another antenna, it sometimes helps.
- Buy a reapter - repeaters will receive whatever your WiFi access point/router sends and resend it, thus, increasing the range of your WiFi.
I would personally go with the homebrew cantenna. A friend of mine did that and it REALLY increased the range. Its also possible to hook it up to your wireless network card and add some range to your computer's ability to find wireless networks.
