I used to live in Englewood and I knew people who were on Welfare and spent their money to buy $175 gym shoes. What is wrong with Amy Jacobson staying warm when she has to work outside? Is the problem that she is wealthy or has bought an expensive-LOOKING hat and coat? You, of course, have no idea how much the coat/hat cost, but even if they were expensive, so what? Amy Jacobson works hard for her money. My job doesn't require me to stand outside in the dead of winter and I am grateful for it. It's lucky for Amy Jacobson that she had a warm coat and hat on a cold night when she had to stand outside for several hours -- getting the story, interviewing people, filming parts of her story that wouldn't be a live-feed, etc.. Is your problem that a white woman shouldn't have a warm coat and hat? Or a Jewish woman shouldn't have a warm coat and hat? I don't understand your point. Lots of journalists are very wealthy and physically comfortable, it doesn't mean they aren't good journalists. Your comments strike me as classist, at best. In my book, there is no difference between classism and racism -- they are both about the stupidity of judging people based on appearance instead of substance.
