There are 2 reasons for increased ridership on Amtrak:



1. Post 9-11 hassles & delays when flying

2. Rising costs of driving

For years, Amtrak has been hamstrung by insufficient funding and a federal mandate for self sufficiency. Now that the federal government recognizes the need for passenger rail, more funding is in the pipeline. This funding will allow Amtrak to upgrade equipment and run more efficiently, leading to even higher rail use in the future.

What goes around comes around

Hi, 

I think people are getting used to the notion that driving isn't all that great and that taking the train can be more convenient. I think the future will bring even more rail use thanks to better facilities, faster trains and more efficient routes. When time is so valuable, people rather spend time on a train where they can work or relax, rather than behind the wheel.
