No, Maria, it doesn't surprise me at all. America is the "churchiest" nation on earth--far more people, per capita, attend ("Christian") church here and hear Bible teachings than in any other nation on earth. However, "Bible literacy" is not the same as true Bible knowlege. Bible literacy is superficial. True Bible knowlege is based on a personal, intimate relationship with the subject of Scripture--Yeshua the Messiah. Virtually all of the so-called Christianity in the U.S.A. is nothing more than churchianity--the false, apostate form of Christianity that will dominate the world just before The End--the great and awesome "Day of the Lord." Your second question, I think, reflects that anti-Christian (phony Christian) spirit. Since when does being "proud" of our Bible literacy have anything to do with true Christianity, when Jesus said, "Blessed are the meek (the humble), for they shall inherit the earth." And no, I would not visit my local (phony) church on any basis (been there and done that), to the destruction of my soul. But I would teach my children to pray--not just as the phony hypocrites do in church and other public places, but continually, in their hearts, just between them and their heavenly Father.
Best wishes in truly knowing God's Word,
Bob Giffin
