Love is the battery of life....

Hi,

American football and baseball gained popularity because they are exciting games and extremely interesting to watch (and play as well !).    They became national sport not as a result of some decision (USA is a free country) but because that is what the people choosed (they "voted" with their support and their money [tickets, sponserships, commercials]). Yes soccer is in it's "take off" stage now in the USA.
As per popularity, football is more popular, here is a reference.
Best regards,

Of course there are exceptions but the basic theme behind baseball and football is fair play in which most Americans support. The great appeal of football is strategic playing and the crowd loves to follow all the plays while sitting in freezing cold weather. There is none of the idiotic theatrics seen in European and Israeli soccer.
