American Bulldog whelps, bumps, hives, skin problems

Our 13 month old Amer. bulldog only has these welts on his cheeks and on the top of his head.  He has rubbed his skin raw.!!!!  We are going to do "skin scrapings" to see what is causing it.  As far as the royal canin food, it has been wonderful (SO) had crystals in his urine, now all gone, no chance of kidney stones. the food is very expensive, but so would surgery be. A dog food is rated by the first 5 ingredients. 

Royal Canin  : 

Chicken meal, rice, brown rice, corn gluten meal, oatmeal. 

If you had a horse or pony, I doubt you'd be feeding that horse or pony buckets of meat because you'd know horses and ponies don't eat meat.

Dogs are carnivores. As such they do well on a diet that gets its protein from meats.

Wheat (and corn and other grains) aren't put into dog food because they're necessarily good for dogs.

They're put into kibble because they're cheaper than putting something into the food that dogs really need to thrive.

Well i have two American Bulldogs and the oldest one is a year old he had the same symptoms. when a dog has allergies is most likely for that dog to lick his paws alot. but by what you discribed on your question he has mange what i did was put COD LIVER OIL where his skin was breaking out what the COD LIVER OIL does is moisterise the skin and stop the infection from spreading let the COD LIVER OIL sit for about a good 30 minutes and then give your dog a shower with SULFER SOAP that soap is very good for sking problems and hair i did that with my dog and havent had a problem since i bath my dogs atleast twice a month with sulfer soap and have not had a problem since if you have any question Email me @ rosendonunez@hotmail.com

I have a pit mixed. I just found out at 2am this morning that my dog had the welps on his body. I gave him a claritin(childrens tablet). I heard the dosage goes by the weight per pound, but I just gave him one. In the morning his back cleared up better, but you can still see the welps a little bit. I'm taking him the the vet today, so I'm not sure exactly what is the problem.
