Alternative medicine

One of my friends was taking vitamins, etc and blew up like a balloon (I say he gained about 14 pounds). But when he stopped taking them he lost the 14 pounds in a couple of days.

Can vitamins, etc make someone blow up like that and then when they stop the vitamins the swelling goes away?

You don't mention the type of vitamin  or the brand. However there is one vitamin that I know of that could have that effect. The stomach will become distended and make the person look swollen if taken in higher than recommended dosage and that is folic acid.

It is also possible that he may have been using something else or had other complications that could have caused his problem.

Good luck and best wishes.
