Allergies ~ help w/ homeopathic cures please!?!

Simply DYING here ~ my allergies are HORRIFIC!!  My head is pounding and I just really want to crawl in bed for a few months and not come out.

Does anyone have any good homeopathic solutions?  Allegra D (24 hrs) isn't helping and is soon to be discontinued in my insurance company's formulary ~ they said I can still get the generic form of Allegra and perhaps take Sudafed.

Sudafed makes me loopy as hell ~ also makes me feel like my hair is actually standing up on end.  I HATE IT!

Any suggestions from those of you who know things about homeopathic cures would be GREATLY appreciated.

Ailie, do you know what it is you are allergic to?  If so, the best remedy is to avoid it.  If it's from tree pollen, move to where those trees don't grow.   If it's grass or weed pollen, the same thing, go where they aren't.  Everything has a range, and the best thing is to escape from it.

I prefer psuedoephredine myself for allergic reactions.  It's natural form is ephedrine from the Ma Huang plant, but I don't know how effective that is, or if it can be dosed easily or accurately.

Take time to stop and smell the roses. Live good and be good.

Hi Ailie,  I think your best bet is to go to an allergy doctor and get tested.  This way you will know for sure what you are allergic to.  Some years back, I acquired several allergies.  They just came on all of a sudden.  I had the scratch tests done.  Nothing was found.  Yet I was so sick all the time.  Next I was injected with 17 different needles up and down both arms.  Then the alleries were coming out like crazy.  I was allergic to grass, trees, molds, which include mushrooms, dust, dogs, even rabbit fur.  Plus a few more that I don't recall off hand.  The doctor said I needed allergy shots to finally get rid of them.  He told me 5 to 7 years on the shots.  I started getting 3 different shots a week, for a year, then the same 3 shots every 2 weeks for another year, then the same 3 shots once a month for another year.  So far that made 3 years.  Well, back then my husband got laid off of his job and we lost our insurance coverage, so I could not afford to pay for all of those shots on my own.  I quit the shots.  I have not had an allergy problem since, and it has been about 10 years now.  As soon as I received that first set of 3 shots, I did not have any allergy symptoms.  So think about being tested, and trying the shots for a while.  It sure beats suffering and paying for allery meds the rest of your life.  In the mean time, stock up on a bunch of pretty handkerchiefs.  I believe they are coming back in style.  They never should have left.  I wish all the best for you.

Oh, the evil scratch test....how well I remember it!  I felt like a freak of nature going back to work in a short sleeved shirt with all those little goodies on the backs of my arms and such.  *shudders*

I was allergic to a lot of things that actually surprised me.

Mold, pollen, cats, dogs, strawberries, tomatoes, smoke, and dust were the main ones I can remember.  It's been a long time since I had the testing done, so I wonder if doing another might be a good idea.

It's odd ~ my cousins who had horrific allergies in their childhoods have all grown out of them.  All of my siblings and many of my cousins who were allergy free as kids have now acquired them.  Sometimes I wish I could have just gone thru it as a kid, so I'd have outgrown it by now ~ but they did miss out on many family outings and such, due to not being able to be outside.

I did allergy shots for 2 years.  After the 2 years, it was discovered that what they were giving me was not going to help.  I had a little "run in" with poison ivy as a kid (and without knowing, put some on the bonfire we had going at the lake house while I was scooping up pine needles)

They injected me with some serum containing whatever poison ivy contains and now have said that if I ever get it again (I'm deathly afraid of it and stick to the roads up north...no frolicking in the woods for this chica) that I need to get to the ER immediately, because my throat had started to close within 2 hours.

My Mom has all sorts of pretty handkerchiefs from back in the day ~ I might hafta go see if she'll let me "steal" them! :)

And PB ~ thanx.  I'm gonna go to the coop this week and check out what they have.  One of my friends suggested honey that's regional as well...said it helps her since bees pollinate the stuff that makes us get the sneezes.  We'll see.

Thanx for your advice ~ I apprecite it.

Ailie, you're welcome.  I think you should go for a retest of your allergies.  I know mine have changed with age.   I am allergic to chocolate now.  Isn't that great?  It's easy enough to avoid, so I wouldn't try the cure for it, but I do miss it.
