I battle the same problem with alcohol abuse. Unfortunately, it is a progressive disease and it is my understanding that it only gets worse without treatment. Going to AA or a hospital support group is probably your best option. It is scary to think you may have to give it up all together, but you may have no choice if you want to save your life.
You just answered your own question-------your SON. If need be go to a doctor to get help if you can't do it on your own. There is no shame in asking for help. Kids need all the help they can get from parents and if you don't care enough to be there to help him to not drink, take drugs, answer his questions on sex, laugh with him, cry with him and love him: then he's not the most important thing in your life and don't pretend he is.
I highly advise AA. My coworker went through there program and battled through it slowly but surely.
I would consult your doctor as well. Even if you quit drinking the damage has still been done but quitting now can help in the long run. After quitting your bod while not able to fully heal will be able to somewhat repair itself in some ways. The damage to your liver is permanent but at your age you have a better chance of not having a lot o complications arise in the future if you were to say quit 15 or 20 years from now. An occasional beer will not do as much damage as what some might think. I am an MA and my sister in law is a CRN an is gping for her Ph.D so I know quite a bit because of that.
I looked at some of the other answers. Yes, the liver has regenerative ability. You need to know exactly what if any damage you have suffered, that can be determined with a liver panel, and an ultrasound of your liver. I say this because this information can help in motivating you. The bigger question is, why are drinking that much? You probably will need some support both medically, psychologically, and spiritually. I am a Christian, and nurse for 36 years, and I know from my own experience personally and professionally that the solution to your problem can be found in developing a personal relationship with Christ. If you are interested in knowing more about what that means, then reply and I will help you .
All you have to do is have that last drink and get rid of all the booz, that is in your house. You have to be strong for your kid,
thanks for your answer....it is a great biggggggggggggg help....i would love to quit drinking and i have been to god and asked for his help because i am to weak to help myself and he has helped me in many ways....i am very determined to quit drinking with the help of someone else because i cant do it alone and i have asked family and so called friends for help but thers no one whom chooses to help me so i am all alone on this trip of my own...i need help and support of others but no one to give a helping hand.....i am scared of dieing and my son being left alone because if im gone its going be as if he is gone also and the reason i say that is because i dont have the family and friend support now means i wont have it then....so i would do what ever it takes to see i get and stick to the help someone will give to me now...i wont to be here to see my son become an old man but if i dont get the help now what will i see next and what will he be facing when im gone......i wont the help and hopefuly the support from another so i can quit drinking and be a better person....and see myself as i use to be with out the booze......i have called upon christ but christ cant fix it all unless i see help within myself....i am crying out for help but dont know which way to turn and or if there is a solution for me...
thanks for the answer to my question....but a little secret AA ant always the answer to a persons alcohol problem...i have been drinking for over5 years everyday b 4 i go to bed so my body depends on that....the rehab don't start in AA it starts after aa and the reason i say that is just because you go to AA don't make you strong to fight against your own addiction that in most cases sticks with you for life...so rehab doesn't start in AA it starts after AA and the reason i say that is because the struggle with addiction begins when you stand alone and that's when rehab begins and from there on out is a struggle that only that alcoholic/drug addict, etc, etc has to learn how to deal and be stronger than the alcohol/drug/etc addiction has on him or her self....so getting help with addiction lies more than in help in AA...its a part but only a small part....thanks for your comment/answer to my question.
