Is Alaska too big to go on a road trip with a family? Too many wide-open spaces between cities?

Alaska is so BIG it seems daunting to try & visit with the family. Is there endless driving between cities or are there enough spots on the way to keep everyone in the family interested?

Alaska is definitely doable with a family!  My boss recently went on a family road trip there, utilizing an RV, which helped with the long stretches between stops.  But...the scenery surrounding you while you drive is spectacular & provides many opportunities of "Look! Let's stop & explore!".

Here's one trip to Alaska that takes you on a 2-week tour through its vast territory.  And this link takes you to my boss's trip (Alaska Family RV Trip - Summer 2007), which gives lots of tips & info.  Either one of these trips are complete so most of the planning has already been done for you.  Enjoy!

65 thumbs up

I think you can have a great trip to Alaska with the family. It's true that Alaska seems a bit on the wild side at first, but I have two things to say about that:

1) That's the beauty of it!!!

2) You can plan your trip in a way that suites you. There are many ways to enjoy what Alaska has to offer and you can decide on the activities you partake in.

Here is a great site on Alaska. It has maps, tips traveling ideas and lots of more information you can use in planning your trip.
