Airbus A380

The first Airbus A380 is about to be delivered tomorrow. I read that only a few airports are ready to handle this aircraft at this stage. Is it a matter of the length of the runways, or something in the terminals? And which airports are ready for this monster?

Love is the battery of life....

Hi,

The A380 is unbelievably big.  At paris AirShow I drove a car under it's wing and I felt like driving next to a real giant !.   The requirement is not only for a long runway but for a wide one, as well as suitable radiuses (to enable maneuvers).  The runway should be also suitable for the weight.  At present only few big international airports are suitable to accept that airoplane.  Airports that desire to enable landing of A380 will have to prepare the infrastructure to cope with the requirements.
Best regards,

I don't know about any other airports, but Orlando International (MCO) can take one. BUT if they are landing south (RWY 17L 17R 18L 18R) They are required to close two large airports in the area because the A380 creates such violent wake turbulence due to it's weight and slow approach speed (in relation to cruising speed)
