Aggressive Cat

We have had two cats for over 9 years now. One male and one female. The female had been and indoor cat until she was about 6 or 7, while the male cat was allowed outside. Slowly we began to let the female cat outside. Around the same time she became very aggressive around the male cat. We were forced to keep them separate from each other for a few months. Then it stopped and they were fine with each other. It has been at least a year since then and recently it has started again. Is there anything we can do to help her behavior? Is there anything seriously wrong with her?

Love your life as you only get one.

The fights could be out of fear or based on territorial issues. Check out Dealing With Aggressive Behavior In Your Cat. It may give you some insight on what you can do to alleviate the issues.

Maybe the female is jealous that the male is allowed out and she wasn't at the time.  Are you sure she isn't playing rough, my cats play rough and sound like they are killing each other but, they are the best of friends and wash, clean, and love each other.  The female could have also smelled a scent outside that made her defensive...I doubt there is anything wrong with her, but, ask the vet...good luck

Are your cats fixed? If not that could be part of the problem. Also cats can be trained! My cats learn the words NO, BE NICE, and GOOD KITTY when they first come into my home. You must use a stern voice when using the word NO so they know you are displeased. All of my cats are rescues so they have had to be trained to our way of living. We don't allow agressive behavior, clawing on the furniture, or for them to get on certain items in the house. It really doesn't take very long to train them, but you must be consistant and vigilant. Good luck with your kitties, Judy
