A:

My family feels the same way. I have a partner of 10 1/2 years and 2- 3 1/2 years old twins with her. I finally told my parents that they would have to accept my whole family or not have me, because I wouldn't do hoidays without them too. I wouldn't let them separate my family. Eventually, they agreed to have them over too. They don't act like they should to my partner or my kids, but they try. They didn't want to lose me, so they had to adapt a little, and it was good for them. MY opinion: I'm not sure you should worry about what your dad feels so much. It is up to him to change and make peace with God and his beliefs. It is not necessary for you to protect him from your reality just because he can't deal with it. It is better to let go and do what you want and need to, for you and your family. It is amazing how people will change when they HAVE to:) Also, my parents respect me now more for standing up for myself. They may never change in the way I want them to, but I have my dignity and my family intact. I hope some of this helped you:)
