Hi, your response is not unusual. Let's look at a couple of possiblities.
One, I am going to assume that, as you have started to write, you have an idea for a writing piece be it a story, poem or article. That's good, that means that your creative juices are flowing fine-it is your head that is saying-"Oh, my goodness, what am I going to say next and the nervousness sets in.
Two, this type of a problem is a form of 'writer's block' again a common situation.
So what do you do?
Try: When you feel the anxiety coming on, get away from your writing for a while. Maybe a cup of coffee or tea or??? go out to the patio or porch or even a quiet room, free your mind and just let the topic of your writing float in your head.
Take a walk in the park, talk to a friend who you share your work with-this is called 'brainstorming'. Throw your topic out and see what your writing friend says.
There is anyother thing that I do that helps me when this happens.
I absorb in my head the one or two words that are main to what I have already written and place those words at the top of a clean paper or document. Then I set my timer for ten minutes and to the click of the timer I write whatever [and I do mean whatever] comes into my head. I do not worry about spelling, grammar or even complete sentences--I just write.
It is amazing how this frees my mind-dissolves that dreaded anxiety. I can then use what I 'free wrote' to continue with my original thoughts.
Try a couple of these and let me know how you do. Thanks for asking. catydorr224 aka dorry http://www.dcatherinewritersweb.org
