Adoption at 43

I only make a modest salary and am thinking of adopting an older child (around 3-5 years old). I am a single woman of 43 years. Can anyone offer any advice?

I was late for work this morning, because I got stuck in Zeno's paradox

Adopting a child is a huge responsibility, and will mean a very radical change in your life style. Raising a child is a very expensive business, so I would suggest that you consider your financial position very carefully before taking such a step.

I really appreciate your desire to adopt and think it is a very honorable thing to do.

Good luck and best wishes!

Hi...thanks so much for your reply and the link to Dave Thomas' site....I was unaware of this foundation.  I requested some more information from them...a big consideration for me obviously is the cost of adopting, so hopefully the information will provide some answers for me.

Hi...thanks so much for your reply....and the links!  I have briefly vsited each link but will read them more in detail later.  My sister and her husband are adopting internationally from Guatemala and are expecting to bring their little girl home in a few months.  I am a bit older than my sister and unmarried and feeling the urge to raise a child and share my life with him or her.  I feel that I would be a great role model and parent.  However I cannot afford to spend half of my life savings on adopting a baby because I know the cost is high...I would want to keep that nest egg for raising a child.  Which is one of the reasons for adopting an older child...from what I hear the cost may be lower, but I am still researching this.  I would love to have a toddler but know that this may not be possible or the wait may be longer.

I will look at your links more closely when I have some free time...I appreciate your answer and feel free to offer any advice or info if you know more....have you adopted?

Thanks!

Lorri

Congrats to your sister and husband! It's such a blessing when a family adopts a child, no matter what the child's age.

A good friend of mine was unfortunate in that she waited too long to start a family. She was unable to conceive after a lot of painful tries. Fortunately, after emailing her the links I posted for you and doing some reading, she was able to adopt a beautiful toddler.

Good luck to you! Feel free to email me if you have any questions. I will do my best to help! =)
