Adopting an animal

I'm thinking of adopting a dog or cat but I'm not sure which. I've never had a pet before, so I could definitely use some advice. Any suggestions?

Get a puppy or kitten, not an adult.  You have to train them a little more than an adult as far as house breaking them, but you don't get the bad habits/problems they have picked up from previous owners.  When someone gives away an adult pet, that is a warning sign.  Most people won't willingly give up a pet unless it has behavioral problems.

As far as which to get, puppy or kitten, puppies take more effort and attention, and needs lots of outdoor time.  Kittens are usually easy to housebreak, and take less attention, but are often more destructive since they can climb to places puppies can't.

I usually tell people to get two puppies or kittens (or one of each) so the animals have company while you're gone.  Dogs especially are a social animal and like to be around other dogs and people almost constantly.

Hmm. First Pet? Try A Rat. Dont Be fooled. Rats are Sweet, Clean, Smart, Cute, And Cheap. They Dont Bite Either. Look It Up. If you dont like the tails, You can get them without.

I Have Four Rats. They Are Sweeties.

Try Searing Pet Rat Pages On Google, Or Videos on YouTube.

Seriously. They Live 2-5 Years.

Please Look Into Them. :)

The road to nowhere is paved with good 'intentions'.

Kittens are alittle roudy, like profitbob said.  Mine use to hang upside down from all the drapes in the house by their claws and stare at me.  LOL!  I chose to have cats because they are sooo independent. When you are gone, if you leave enough food and fresh water, a couple scratch posts.. and a clean litter box, your cat, or cats can be fine without you for days.. infact I think they like having the place to themselves!  So if you're a busy person who's not home much, I would suggest acouple cats.  Mine are great companions, especially now that they're so far past that 'kitten' stage.  They are alittle mischievous for the first few years, like all babies, you'll need to keep an eye on them, but they do settle down, a lot.

I could go on and on about the greatness of cats.  I've had them in my life since I was a small child, they are my favorite domestic animal... so if there is ever anything more you'd like to know about them, don't hesitate to ask me.  Good luck!
