Adopting a Child that Lokks Like You

Would you consider adopting a child that is clearly not your biological child because she looks totally different than you and your spouse?

For example, do you think a Caucasian couple  can adopt a child of Chinese descent, or should the parents look for someone who could pass as their own?

Yes and I have. Yes they can. Are they that egotistical? If these are the kind of questions that concern you if you are considering adoption then don't adopt. Get a pet.

Heaven help me for even answering this question.

I think you're ignoring some vital parameters, like how the child would feel, when it is clear that she is adopted. You seem to be forgetting that children can be very cruel, and I think it naive to ignore the possibility that they pay for their parents decisions.

Some questions aren't politically correct. That doesn't make the people who ask them bad people.

In a 1995 study, transracial adoption was not found to be detrimental for the adoptee in terms of adjustment, self-esteem, academic achievement, peer relationships, parental and adult relationships. (Sharma, McGue, Benson, 1995)

Here is also a link to a great article and website that may help answer your questions.

I think as long as you truly love the child and give them a better home then they have now, thats all that matters. Yes, children can be cruel, but they are cruel even to someone who looks just like them.

Yes most definately.  Always be honest with your child from the start that they are adopted.  "You may not have been born under my heart, you were born in my heart"  Loving your child unconditionally no matter what race or color - they know it and are well adjusted.
