The short answer is no. For painting on canvas ,acrylic can (and often is) used undiluted. However it can also be diluted with water to form a wash which is more thin and translucent the more water is added. Also various "acrylic mediums" can be added which affect the texture, workability, drying properties and finish of the paint.
