Abnormal cell growth

I had a pap in June '09, I was asked to come back in a few months because I had abnormal cell growth, but I tested negative for HPV. So what does this mean?

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

HPV is a virus that can result in cancer of the cervix, vulva or vagina.  It can, also, cause warts.  So, it's good that you tested negative for it.

However, I would expect a gynecologist to look further into the abnormal cell growth.  This could indicate a problem in the ovaries.

Likely some form of pre cancerous cell growth.  GYN cancers are not all related to the human papaloma virus (HPV).  Hopefully, you have been checked out by now.
