How to make AOL antivirus allow gmail POP3?

AOL antivirus (based on McAfee) pops up a message every time I send/receive email via Outlook from my gmail account. POP3 connection to gmail works fine both for sending and receiving email. It is just the popup that disturbs me.  AOL support don't have a clue.

My questions:

HOW CAN I STOP THE POPUP FROM APPEARING (WITHOUT DISABLING SCANNING OF INCOMING EMAIL)?

HOW CAN I DEFINE WHICH PORTS EMAIL IS SCANNED ON? HOW CAN I DISABLE SCANNING OF OUTGOING EMAIL?

Here is the message:

An error occurred while processing the email with the subject: Unknown.

Please check your connection to the Internet and resend the email.

Do you have another Email account defined in your Outlook? If so, do you get this error as well when you send/receive from that account?

It seems as though there is a problem with the AOL anti virus installation, so perhaps reinstalling it might do the trick.

All other accounts on outlook (some POP3 and some IMAP) work fine and don't generate the popup. The only difference with gmail I can think of is that it works over different port numbers (995 for POP3 and 465 for SMTP). The installation is fresh and the problem occurred immediately after it. I don't think reinstalling will work. My guess would be that maybe the McAfee AV doesn't cope well with the ports numbers. Maybe there is a way to configure that?

AOL apparently solved it through an auto-update of their software. The problem disappeared.
