AC Voltage Regulator problem.

I have a Miltary Surplus 110V single cylinder diesel generator with a bad AC voltage regulator (output is in excess of 150 volts). I have been unable to find a replacement. Does anyone know of a reasonable solution or what I might try next. It's to good a unit to scrap.
