I think that the mental abilities developed when listening to music, extend over a lot of other areas in ability of thought. I, personally, am a musician, and used to respond to a lot of types/styles that I didn't appreciate. I generally anymore can give most anything a listen, and see some positives in it, even if it's nothing I'd listen to myself for any reason. I can go from classical, to bluegrass, to blues, to country, to rock and roll, to jazz, and on and on. Teaching a child to have ignorant prejudice towards any musical style, is training them to be ignorant. Teaching them to listen, and make their own choices about what they hear, is a hallmark of freedom.........
