What is the name of the song with the lyrics "Can ...

What is the name of the song with the lyrics "Can you hear ne? Tell me, can you hear me?" I think those lyrics are right, but not totally positive. The singer is a guy. The song is sort of mellow and I'm pretty sure it is from the 80s. Anybody have any idea what it is and who sings it?

There is a song from Brabra Strisands "Yental" that goes "Can you hear me, Papa, can you hear me" The character is a girl pretending to be a boy.

"Tell me can you hear me", sounds like "Tommy, can you hear me?", from the rock opera "Tommy", as the first poster said. Now, if it's from the 80's, it may be David Bowie's "Space Oddity", in which he says, "Can you hear me, Major Tom?"

i think the song you're thinking of is 'silent running' by mike and the mechanics. i think he is a former member of genesis. try looking up this song on line and see if it is the right lyrics.
