My 802.11g USB2 card is slow

I have bought a 802.11g (54Mb/s) card. It is connected to my workstation thru a USB2 connection. But this USB2 card behaves very slowly. It displays a 54Mb/s connectivity thru windows, btu the network inspector tool only reveals 6 to 8Mb/s transfers. This does not come originate from the WiFi router, as my other computer connects to real 54Mb/s . So, could this be linked to the USB2 transfer rate?

It is more likely related to poor reception of the wireless USB card Frown

Some of these cards have very poor performance and also tend to heat up. You may want to experiment by bringing the router closer to the said computer and checking if throughput rates improve. If they do, you got proof of a reception issue...

Even if your laptop has excellent reception, your USB wireless card may not (they have different antennas and probably other differences too). If the router and USB card are one next to the other, you can't expect any better. But if that is not the case, I would test it.

Of course, this will only tell you if there is a reception issue with the USB card, since I assume you want wireless connectivity so you don't need to collocate the router and the workstation...

It could be a case of your connection and you need a stronger wif-fi reception which can be accomplished easy with longer wires.
