If you have a temp gun, take the cowling off and check the temp of the head or where the thermostat is. If you dont have a temp gun touch it, if you can hold your fingers on it for about 7 seconds it's fine. The overheat temperature should be around 160 degrees F and normal operating temp should be around 130 degres F. If its not cooling then you should replace the water pump. The excess smoke could be from the oil injection since it has been sitting. try blowing some compressed air through the pee line.
