401K distribution check sent to me with Credit Union name on it, can I divide it between 2 places

Got a question about Common IRA Rollover Mistakes to Avoid? Type your question here...I took a 401K distribution, check was made out to my credit union fbo my name and sent to me. Can I deposit it at credit union then set up an IRA with half of the money, then send the other half to a different bank for a 2nd ira. Can the credit Union say no and insist it all stay with them?pp
