Why does my 3 year old bite and how can I make him stop? I have tried everything I can think of from time out, spanking, biting back, taking away toys, and I even reward him on the days he does not bite his friends at school....Nothing works. He has been biting since he was 1 then he stops for awhile and starts it all over again. He even bites my 17 year old to the point where my oldest looks abused. I am at the end of my rope, and I imagine the parents of the children he is biting are tired of it. What can I say to these parents that my child keeps biting their child. PLEASE

when your 3 year old bites someone bite him/her back. And hard enough for them to cry, but not break the skin. He/she will learn that this hurts the others too and will stop biting.

i don't think you should bite him back. I used to get SOOOOOOOOO mad at my sister I used to bite her but I was probably 8 or 10 or so. My older cousin bit her siblings which is where I got the idea. He is probably frustrated and doesn't know how to handle his feelings. He is old enough now to understand that he hurts others when he bites...try talking to him. Tell the other parents you are sorry and you are trying to get him to stop. Maybe the school teachers have some ideas. I'm sure they've dealt with this problem with other kids in the past. Thanks Kelly,at this point I think I need all the luck I can get. He is a very sweet boy, and just has the cutest face and very loving. He is very smart and he knows how to use his words, he just wants to bite when the situation is not to his liking. The director of the center and teachers are trying eveything we can think of. As of right now, today he bit so he cant go to school tomorrow, which by the way he loves, I tell him he cant go tomorrow because he hurts his friends. so far this week he has missed 2 days. Any suggestions or ideas would be great. Thanks for responding Kelly.

I'll ask some of my relatives if they have any ideas... you know...my cousin who bit is a nurse now and works at a doctor's office so she may have an idea. I will get back to you..... You're welcome.
