The 3 seconds rule

My friends and I have a 3 second rule for food that fell to the ground, which means it can still be eaten if it was on the ground under 3 seconds.

Is there any biological reasoning for that, or is it just a joke?

It depends on what the food fell into. I personally would not even give it one second. When it comes to potentially dangerous food:

WHEN IN DOUBT, THROW IT OUT!

The health and well-being of your body should be paramount.

What comes around goes around.

3 second rule; i think that was made up by someone who used to drop food often. but i think if it falls in a really dirty place, i'd agree with harryvan, when he says, when in doubt, throw it out. otherwise i say open wide and enjoy =)
