I was always under the impression that to be an ...

I was always under the impression that to be an athelete in the olympics one truly had to be an amatuer. I see both LeBron James and Kobe Bryant on the USA basketball team. Knowing that both are paid professional atheletes, how can that be?

Thanks for any help that you can give to me regarding this matter.

There has always been an issue with this with basketball.  Do you remember back several years that Michael Jordan and all the Bulls pros, plus others, made the dream team in the Olympics.  They were also far from amateurs... they were the most professional one could be.  I'm not sure what the Olympic Committee says about this, but clearly they don't really have a problem, because if they did, something would have been done to correct this problem years ago.
