fuel pump is in the gas tank. but first see wether you have spark, than you check to see if there is fuel, by looking at the fuel rail there is a cap which you can remove you will see a valve like a valve on a tire ,get a small screw driver make sure you have some safty gogools so you dont get any fuel in you eyes hold a rage over the valve, depress the valve and see if you have any fuel pressure, make sure some one is there to help you turn the ignition on and off but do not crank the engine .

Some recent history according to my daughter - the car at hi-way speeds would hesitate and she said the tach would fuluate all the way down to zero. I was going to put a fuel injector cleaner in and when I went to, 2 days later it would not start. also how do I check for spark?

ok this is a problem with the distrubuter,the tach is reading the negitive pulse on the distrubuter,there for the distrubuter, will be needed service, it s cheaper to buy a reman distrubuter. you can check for spark by pulling one of the ignition wires and stick an old spark plug in it and crank the moter and look at the plug for spark.that is the easys way,
