1996 Sebring JXi, just dies

sebring,1996 What could it be that would make a car drop rpms to 0 when you are doing 70 on the freeway? It doesn't do it all the time. Sometimes it pops back up. Sometimes it dies. When it dies I sit on the side of the road clicking the starter and actually removing the hot lead on the battery for 5 minutes or so. It starts right up and is fine for a while. Is it the main computer?
