Dear Sky,
The answers shed some light on what may be causing your hair loss. Certainly anxiety, heavy metals and poor nutrition may be a cause. often, we don't even know that we aren't metabolizing our nutrients properly as our digestive systems are compromised. You must determine if this is the case first (do you make regular bowel movements? Are they solid, etc...). Then you should absolutely get a blood panel to test your thyroid, estrogen and progesterone levels, as well as your iron and amino acid levels. Yes, protein is very important for hair growth, but the health of the follicle is key and that is maintained by essential fatty acids (fish in your diet, healthy whole grains and the like) and the usual vitamins such as the B's (biotin, B6, B12), A and others. I regularly see younger folks who have fluctuating menstrual cycles suffer from hair loss and despite not having direct family members suffering from hair loss, you might look to your grandparents as well. What I've seen that works beyond the limited successes of minoxidil and the male prostate drugs such as propecia and proscar is low light laser therapy. If your cardiovascular system is compromised, this LLLT will help bring much needed nutrients to your follicles and first help to stop hair loss then to re-grow the follicles that are still alive. To calm your concern that this hair loss is likely reversible, you will have a digital imaging of your scalp to show you that your follicles are still alive. Once you go through the regime of LLLT and add the stimulating solution, you'll see an improvement in 6-12 weeks, but do keep in mind the other items I've noted as you would do well to determine what the cause is while treating the condition.
