08 mini windshield replacement

I live in Orange , CA.  Need to replace the windshield on 08 Mini S hatchback.  Based on what I read on the forums, I would like to replace it with a PPG windshield.  Does anyone know a reputable shop to go to?? Estimated cost? Thanks, Jay

The company i and my family have used for years, if i did not do it myself was   ace autoglass. They come anywhere the vehicle is and install within minutes. Price veries but i have seen between 187 and 350. If you are mechanically inclined, you buy a windshield sealer cutter from napa or auto store. You remove the trimming with a thin flatblade screwdrive, being very carefull not to scratch your paint. There is also a tool you can buy for that. You go under the trim and push the plastic or metal place holders to left or right. They are held by little pegs . Once you go around the whole windshield doing this you remove the molding. Then you must use the sealant, or better said cut it, with a tool bought at auto parts store, very cheap. The ones with a tee handle and 90 degree double edged blade, shaped like a triangle top. You hold the one end in place with one hand, and pull the corded other end in whatever direction you choose. You must first push the blade part into the sealant material, usually like rubber, around all the way, sometimes you have to go more than once. Then from inside car push windshield out with your feet outward. Once windshield is out you use a razor scrapper to remove any exsiting sealant, so it is fairly clean and smoth,, leave no clumps. Then you buy from napa or autostore a tube or two of the windshield sealant that fits in a calk gun, there is also a boxed version rolled in a big spiral. You carefully roll it out where the old sealant was and cut off what you do not need. Then push it down with fingers, trying to flatten it a bit. A hair dryer or heat gun can be used to make it more easy to work with--makes softer. Then having bought the new or used windshield, you place it in carefull, having a friend to help is a major plus. Once laid in position, very gently push all around the windshield edge, again applying heat makes it go much better. Do not press too hard or you will crack it, simply take your time and go around and around softly untill the windshield is squished in enough to be sealed from water entering. You can even let stand overnight after initial install and let gravity do some work over night. Then re-install the trim using backward unstructions for tacking it off with the clips. Again, slow and carefull. If you break a clip, dont panick, they are cheap. When done, wash window with windex and paper towles.--AGAIN YOU DON'T HAE TO PUSH THE WINDOW HARD, JUST REPEAT AROUND AND AROUND, JUST UNTILL YOU CAN GET YOUR TRIM BACK ON., OR CALL ACE GLASS INSTALLERS, THEY DO GOOD WORK. You just usually have to vacuum to make sure you get all the glass pieces that may be inside from them taking it out. Sometimes they do it but, be sure, cause sitting in glass shards is not fun.
