i have a -dell inspiron 8100 - , i just bought a new power supply / will the supply run the PC ? or does it charge the batteries and they run the PC ? .

While the laptop is connected to an external source of power it runs independently of the battery. You can actually remove the battery, but then you won't have electricity back-up in case of power failure.

It'll run the computer w/o the batteries. Sometimes lesser brands of computers run really hot when there's no battery present, but they always run. The battery in the laptop that I'm using right now has been dead the last year or so (it stores up to 45 seconds of charge). Still works fine when plugged in.
