When you have a lot of weight to lose, it is not uncommon to lose 2-4 pounds a week. Eventually, it will slow down to 1-2 pounds a week- which is a good rate to sustain for weight loss.

This depends on your age and gender. If you are 20-30, 2200 calories a day. 40-50, about 2000 calories a day. Men will have to have even more calories.
