I would take the gemstones to the local jeweler and ask them to direct you to a rare stones collector or local jeweler who is knowledgeable. They generally have the best ideas in terms of where to go ...

To me, its all about the color you like. Personally I really love tanzanite jewelry, but diamonds are great. I love the unique colored diamonds, and the black ones really take the cake.
