How do curly perms typically turn out?

it's not the perm, although a moisturizing one is alway's the better choice, it's the amount of rods and hair they use. try another route, get a softer straightener

if you use large perm rods and not alot of them you won't need to straighten it first. if you are african american, i would just get a softer hair straighten.
