I used a lot of lime. I had the same thing to happen to me. I till lime in every year now and lots of it.50# bag for 20'x30' garden.

Elimination of Creosote Odor from a Piling Foundation

Spray your pilings with A oil base primer. let dry to tutch and then Spray them with lead base paint incapalant. You will have to special order from Apaint store.
