The classic answer to what is alcoholism is that when you take a drink, you can't predict before hand what will happen. Will you say you will stop after 2 drinks, do you find yourself drinking more ...

Have you tried ACOA (Adult Children of Alcoholics)? They help you to see that it's not your fault, that you have (had) no control of your father's drinking.
