Someone is trying to con you that is not true at all ive been in the business for over 20 years as a service tech for carrier dealers dont believe a word of that a variable speed fan will help ...

How long does it take to install an air ...

It would all depend on if the new coil was a direct replacement and if the refrigerant could be pumped down into the condenser but usually 1 1/2 to 3 hrs

Fan motor in 4 ton AC unit

Have you checked your filter? If so it sounds like one of 2 things 1 evaporator coil is dirty from dirt by passing filter and plugging coil on bottom side or fan motor speed is not on high speed ...
